An Open Letter to Myself

Hey. Sup?

Look, I know that you and I haven't always gotten along, but I'm gonna say some stuff and you should just listen, okay? And don't do that thing of when you listen, but don't really listen because you're just thinking about all how everything I'm saying is WRONG, because it's NOT, so freaking listen, okay?

You're starting this thing, this blog, and you're really excited about it. You've got plans and ideas and you want to make people laugh and the whole world is your oyster, right? Okay, good, I'm glad we both feel that way. But I know you — you know you — and somewhere along the line, maybe not soon, but maybe soon, you're going to feel like all the dreams you had for this project were a bunch of bunk and you should quit. And I hope that when you feel like that you'll come read this:

DON'T FREAKING QUIT.

I know you want to and you think that there's no point in posting to this blog and that no one reads it but WHO CARES?

Post anyway.

Write anyway.

LAUGH ANYWAY.

Be a beast and take this project head on and just don't quit. Not because anyone else likes it, but because YOU like doing it. If other people like what you're doing, that would be GREAT and FUN and WONDERFUL and AWESOME, but if they don't

DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.

One day, you'll look back on this and whether or not anyone besides you gave a flying crap about it, you'll still have whatever you created and it will be YOURS. You will have DONE something, MADE  something, BEEN something and fulfilled some purpose.

It's not like you're trying to do acrobatic Yoga.

Or climb a mountain (carrying a brief case for some reason).

You're just writing, so just MAKE JOKES, even if you're the only one laughing.

Love,
YOURSELF

  1. Great letter. You probably need to read it at least once or twice a year. Besides, you can always know that I read your blog, or stories or rantings, whenever and where ever I can, and I love them. They give me insight to you that I never knew about, probably because you never tooted your own horn. But you are wonderful and you should start sending those short stories you wrote in high school to magazines. They are much better than a lot of stuff I have read!!! xoxoxoxo
